Reborn by C.C. Hunter- Shadow Falls: After Dark #1
Here comes a new Spin Off Series from one of my favorite writers and one of my favorite Young Adult Paranormal Series: Shadow Falls. When the series ended last year I was sad. Then CC Hunter announced the Spin Off with Vampire Della and I was not.. exactly thrilled at first, as she was not one of my favorite characters, but now after finishing I’m totally Team Della – GO Della!
Della is an interesting character, she’s very angry and not always very nice, which is why I was not immediately sold on her as a protagonist. Being made a Vampire was one things she had to get used to, but what hurts her even more is the rejection of her parents. Since her parents do not know about supernaturals, they think she’s at a camp for troubled teens. Their rejection, and especially the cold shoulder from her Dad huts Della so much that she completely closed off from friendship and love with the fear of being hurt again.
Once you get to know in Della’s head, it’s easy to understand her better and hurt along with her. Also, I loved that everyone made her aware of her cold snappish behaviour and that she begins to reflect her attitude and slowly begins to change!
The theme which was prominent in The Shadow Falls series carriers also into this new series. It focuses a lot on the power of real and true friendship and that you can find family in many different places. Della’s friendship with Kylie (protagonist of the previous series) and the witch Miranda is absolutely moving and touching and makes you wish to have such close friends yourself. It’s with them that Della can be herself and she’s loved simply for who she is.
Then there is the Vampire camp leader Burnett who is also working for a CIA like organisation only for Supernatural. He’s a closed off badass who also has a hard time showing and expressing feelings, but he has taken on Della and seeing their relationship was also a thing of wonder.
What made this story really shine was Steve with whom Della has some kind of an relationship, which Della has a hard time truly defining as being in a relationship due to her issues. But Steve knows her and he loves her for who she really is and he never gave up on her and I LOVED that about him so much! when Della pushed him away, he pushed forward even more. How can you not love a boy like this!
The synopsis hints a a Love Triangle, and while a triangle was major part of the previous series, it is completely differently handled here for which I’m grateful.
Apart from all this wonderful elements there is of course also a plot line that keeps everyone moving and hooked. There is a killing and Della desperately wants to prove herself to Burnett to help and solve the case. Then there is the mystery surrounding Chase which totally ended up in a super surprising twist I didn’t see coming. In addition Della tries to find family members her father never mentioned before and in her desperate wish for love, she tries to find them.
The story hooked me right from the beginning and there were lots of surprised and twists along the way. The ending was exciting, closed up some loose ends to satisfy the reader, but then leaves some mysterious for the next book!
If there is one thing to complain about is the constant feminism from Della, who thinks that she’s not taken seriously that she’s a girl. While I like the theme and I think it’s an important issue to be addressed, a little less wouldn’t have hurt and would have still gotten the message across.
Reborn by C.C. Hunter kicks of excitingly into a new series set in the Shadow Falls world. Beloved characters are back, and new ones are introduced. Even though I was skeptical, Della proved to be a kick ass heroine with a lot of heart we just needed to discover she has. The romance is touching and the basic them of love, friendship and family is what truly shines in these pages! Even if you haven’t read the previous series feel free to jump in now!

Chosen at Nightfall by C.C. Hunter - Shadow Falls #5 + Giveaway!
I have followed this series since it’s fantastic beginning in Born at Midnight. It’s a thrilling and romantic paranormal series that I fell deeply in love with. Now, with Chosen at Nightfall comes the epic conclusion and as usual when a favorite series ends I anticipated the book both with fear and excitement.
For all those who have not yet read this series. My Review is completely spoiler free!
One of the biggest questions throughout this series was what Kylie truly is in the paranormal world. That’s she’s far from being normal and something utterly unique became clear quite early in the series. Kylie desperately tried to find a place in the supernatural world, which wasn’t easy as all the different species tempt to keep for themselves.
In this last installment Kylie knows who she is, but still fight against cross-species prejudice and ancient rules to keep the species to themselves. After trying hard to find her own place she now fights for a better supernatural world. You cannot help yourself but admire Kylie for her optimism and sheer determination to change things. I just loved Kylie and she outdid herself in Chosen at Nightfall. She was even stronger and even more determined.
Apart from Kylie search to discover who she is there were always 2 boys around her and each one deliciously sexy and amazing. Lucas the hot sexy werewolf and Derek the cute but just as sexy Faery. Even though I’m not a fan of Love Triangles, here it was done perfectly right!!! Normally, I know from the beginning which boy will get the girl. Here? I didn’t know till the very end and it only shoes CC Hunter’s amazing talent to make us care for both boys equally.Even while reading this last installment I was torn until finally it all became clear and I was cheering for Kylie’s choice! She couldn’t have done it any better!
Team Lucas or Team Derek? Oh… I will forever be Team Lurek! I love them both and it was an amazing ride seeing them both fighting for Kylie.
The end was perfection and I cannot say it any other way. The whole series was wrapped up so neatly and there was nothing missing in the grand scheme of things. CC Hunter managed to tie up all loose ends and I’m leaving Kylie and … (No, I’m not saying…) with a sad smile. This series is one of my favorites and I’m just sad it’s over…. (*please see below for exciting news!!)
Before I finish I wanted to quote something I said years ago when I fist started this series. It’s no less true and describes my feelings perfectly:
The Shadow Falls series belongs to my favorite YA series. It has everything I wish for in a YA paranormal series. A thrilling tale that moves with a great pace, where layers of secrets are revealed in a way that we are never bored. A Love Triangle that is perfectly played out and is not making us feel bad about any of Kylie’s choices. Taken At Dusk delivers just as its predecessors and continues a gripping story about self-discoveries, finding a place in the world, friendship, and love. So, if you didn’t start this series yet, I can only encourage you to do so…
Chosen at Nightfall by CC Hunter completes one of my favorite paranormal series and ‘I’m leaving it with a smile and a tear in my eyes. I followed Kylie’s journey excitingly and passionately throughout this series and everything wraps up perfectly at the end. The Shadow Falls series is for all paranormal fans that love hot sexy boys, beautifully displayed family and friendship bonds
Exciting for all fans was the announcement of CC Hunter that she will continue this series with a main focus of the angry but most awesome Vampire Girl Della. This series starts with a Novella set just before “Chosen At Nightfall”. Love this chick! She’s one of Kylie’s best friend and I’m more than excited to follow her story…

synopsis from goodreads
Step into Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with supernatural powers. Here friendship thrives, love takes you by surprise, and our hearts possess the greatest magic of all. Kylie Galen wants the truth so badly she can taste it. The truth about who her real family is, the truth about which boy she’s meant to be with—and the truth about what her emerging powers mean. But she’s about to discover that some secrets can change your life forever…and not always for the better. Just when she and Lucas are finally getting close, she learns that his pack has forbidden them from being together. Was it a mistake to pick him over Derek? And it’s not just romance troubling Kylie. An amnesia-stricken ghost is haunting her, delivering the frightful warning, someone lives and someone dies. As Kylie races to unravel the mystery and protect those she loves, she finally unlocks the truth about her supernatural identity, which is far different—and more astonishing—than she ever imagined.
Ever since 2 years ago when I saw the cover of Born At Midnight I’m in love with this series. The series continued with Awake At Dawn which was as good as the first book and now goes into the third round with Taken At Dusk.
It always makes me happy to be back in the Shadow Falls camp full of paranormal creatures like Vampires, Witches, Werewolves, Fairies and… Kylie. The camp is on the edge of transforming from a summer camp to a full school so that Kylie and her friends can stay there the whole year and have a place to be, when there is no place for them in the human world anymore. In Shadow Falls they can be themselves. I love this camp atmosphere full of new forming friendships and love between the girls. They become a family when their one family cannot deal with their otherworldliness.
Yep! Starting with the first book we always wondered what exactly Kylie is, since she seems not to belong to any of the other paranormal creatures. She something else, something special and she needs to figure out what she exactly is. For this she goes on a journey of discovering the truth about her family and her dad, who she never meet alive but as ghost. In Taken At Dusk things start to clear up in an exciting way and Kylie’s tale is as gripping and thrilling as ever. And yes, we finally get some answers, which only make me wish to kno even more! There are a lot of new developments which let us turn the pages faster and faster! Again, apart from the focus on Kylie’s story the secondary characters and their development is not left out. And I loved to see Kylie’s relationship with her friends and Holly to grew even deeper!
Still, no idea! Since the beginning, there are two boys who fight for Kylie’s heart, but do not let her heart unscathed along the way. My heart breaks ever so often when one of the boys turns into a direction that is clearly hurtful! Kylie is left in Awake At Dawn with a confused Derek who run away from her and her emotions. Lucas has now the time to step up and take his chances. Clearly, he’s a damn hot wolfboy and I love this boy! But there is something about the two together that is unsettling and I am not sure which boy can make Kylie happy in the end. But. Kylie doesn’t know herself and we are about to follow her on her journey not only to discover herself but also make the right boy-choices. However, CC Hunter has a way to create hot and sensual moments between Kylie and the boys and I appreciate her romance talent very much… *sigh* I do have the feeling that in this book there are hints about who is the better boy for Kylie and I am looking forward finding out if I am right!

6. We all make mistakes, which is why it’s so important to practice forgiveness.
7. The only thing worse than a pissed-off shape-shifter is a pissed-off shape-shifter in love.
8. Sometimes the earth really does have to open up and swallow you whole before you can accept the truth that’s right in front of you.

C.C. Hunter grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she’s still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is so not a frog. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, spending time with her family, or is shooting things-with a camera, not a gun.
