Interview with Rinda Elliott - Author of The Sisters of Fate Trilogy

A while ago I featured Forecast, the next book of The Sisters of Fate Trilogy by Rinda Elliott in a Wednesday Pre-Squee Feature and today I am super excited to have Rinda here for an Interview! I’m so happy that she took her time to chat a little bit about her books and about Norse Mythology, which I find highly intriguing!

So now, please welcome Rinda at the Bewitched Bookworms

Hi Rinda – I’m so excited to have you hear today to celebrate the release of the second book of “The Sisters of Fate Series”  “Forecast” featuring Coral and .. Thor! :)

I absolutely love your approach for this series as I absolutely love Norse mythology! What fascinates you the most about Norse Mythology and what made you use it for Young Adult Debut?
I’ve just always had a fascination with mythology in general–with the different ways people believe. Norse was always my favorite and I think it’s because in the beginning, it seems like people were more drawn to Greek and Roman mythologies. I tend to gravitate to the underdog. Or so I thought. But once I started reading up on it, I realized there was nothing of the underdog there. Norse mythology is so rich in wonderful stories and creativity. One of the first books I wrote was about this lonely man in an old family castle in Wales who shifted into a big black cat because of an ancient Viking curse. Seriously, I was that into it. Later, I learned my first name came from Norse mythology and it felt like kismet.

As for my YA debut, I was drawn to the story of Oklahoma’s Heavener Runestone and had planned to set my second adult UF there–Blood of an Ancient. I wanted to tie in a YA series to it and we were to meet Vanir and his family as helpful secondary characters. But I changed it because I felt like the stories needed to stand on their own. So I moved Blood of an Ancient and cut its ties to the YAs altogether. Vanir and Raven came to me with such clarity, I dove fully into their story.

Which one is your favorite Norse God?

That is the hardest question because there are so many cool aspects to each of them. Honestly, it’s probably Loki. He’s not nearly as evil as he’s portrayed in most things–even my books. But I’m also drawn to Freyr and Freya…Skadi…okay, I can’t answer this one. LOL. I can’t pick just one!

If you could meet one of these Gods, who would it be and how would you like to spend the day with him or her?

I know I said Loki is one of my favorites, but probably not him. He’d be up to some mischief and I’d get all stressed out. Let’s see, Baldr is the god of light and joy, so it would probably be great to hang out with him and soak up the happy.

In “The Sisters of Fate Series” series the kids are hosting the souls of the Norse Gods. If you could wish
for one specifics soul, which would you choose, and why!:)

Oh man, there are a bunch I’d pick. But probably Odin, god of wisdom, because I could write about anything with authority. But then, I’d probably feel like I needed to be in charge of everyone. I’d get bossy… Just kidding. I would definitely like to have more knowledge of things. Plus, he was also the god of magic and that could be fun.

There are not so many Young Adult books featuring Norse mythology, but do you have some recommendations for readers who can’t get enough of these Norse Gods?

I honestly have not read any other fiction books featuring Norse mythology. I didn’t want to accidentally absorb anything before I finished my entire trilogy. And for a time, there were some other YA and middle-grade books that got picked up around the time mine was making the rounds and it was a bit hard because these books got very, very close to selling several times. At one point, more than a handful of publishers had shown interest in them. But in the end, concern that Norse mythology wasn’t popular enough kept them from getting picked up. This was around 2009/2010. Later, my agent and I had actually stopped marketing these and that’s when my Harlequin editor called up and asked if they were still available. She’d loved the first book quite a bit, hadn’t forgotten about it, and thought the trilogy would work in their new digital line for Harlequin Teen. She took a chance and I’m so happy. Harlequin was one of my top dream publishers, so I’m thrilled my books are there.

Rinda, the next book Foresworn will be the last book in this series. any idea already what comes next from you?

Yes, I have some very loyal Beri O’Dell readers and am starting to get more emails asking about book three. That is on my agenda next. I also have a dystopian YA I wrote years ago, then shelved because the market felt flooded. I love the characters a lot and still think about the book often, so I plan to do some revisions, make it even better and send it out. There is a fun snippet of it on my website. I’ve also got a proposal for a southern Gothic that might start making the rounds soon. A part of me wants to dive fully into that book. So many, many ideas. ;)

Anything else you’d like to add?

Just a thanks for your enthusiasm about my Norse YA trilogy. I’d hoped there were readers out there who would enjoy them and I’m thrilled every single time I hear from a reader or reviewer who had a good time with the books.
Thank you so so much for stopping by today Rinda:))
    Thanks for having me!

It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny. But only if they survive…

The Lockwood triplets have had the prophecy drummed into their heads since birth. Still, Raven, the eldest of the sisters, can’t believe it’s really happening. She’s the reincarnation of a Norse goddess? One of the sisters is destined to die? When it starts snowing in summer in Florida, the sisters fear the worst has come to pass. Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world, has begun.

Raven finds herself the secret protector of Vanir, a boy with two wolves, a knowledge of Norse magic and a sense of destiny he can’t quite explain. He’s intense, sexy and equally determined to save her when it becomes clear someone is endangering them. Raven doesn’t know if getting closer to him will make a difference in the coming battle, but her heart isn’t giving her a choice.

Ahead of the sisters is the possibility of death at the hand of a warrior, death by snow, death by water or death by fire.Or even from something else…

Sisters of FateThe prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die.

    Snipped from my Review

Foretold by Rinda Elliott was a heart pounding paranormal adventure with fierce, passionate heroes and an thrilling, action packed story! Norse myths were wonderfully entwined with our modern day setting in a delightful and mesmerising way! I most definitely can’t wait for the next Sisters story!

    About Rinda Elliott

I love unusual stories and credit growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept us amused, especially in some of the stranger places. For years, I tried to separate my darker side with my humorous and romantic one. I published short fiction, but things really started happening when I gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, I love making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with my husband and two children.

  2. Unbelievable Heartbreaking & Honest - Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Unbelievable Heartbreaking & Honest - Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

I adore Colleen Hoover. She rocks the New Adult genre and her books always bring me to tears. Of course, I was simultaneously excited and scared about Ugly Love.

    UGLY-LOVE-Blog-Tour

Incredible Chemistry and Friends with Benefits – really? And what about the heart?

In Ugly Love, we get the POV of both Tate and Miles, which was somehow necessary for this story. Tate moves in with her brother and when she meets Miles the sparks fly immenadietaly. Just Miles is in a really and place and doesn’t want to commit to feelings or a relationship. Just, they can’t deny their chemistry and attraction so they slip into a dangerous relationship. However, Tate slowly falls for Miles and knows that this won#t ever end well for her, but she can’t help – she can’t stay away from him.

It’s excruciating to see Tate suffer. They are so good together, yet Miles pushes and pushes and breaks Tate’s heart over and over again.

And before anyone goes and judges Tate – she knew what she was getting into, and she knew she was going to get hurt – but when love is involved you’d do whatever it takes. It was genuinely heartbreaking!

Master storytelling, with so much emotion!

Often with dual POV’s the authors don’t really capture each voice so distinctively that it’s easy to separate them both. But, here Colleen did an amazing job. Miles parts used short sentences not much flourished and it was easy to get a feeling for his character. Even more. we are always wondering what broke Miles, what damaged him so badly that he refused to acknowledge his feelings for Tate. We get to the bottom of this through flash back chapters, and even here the voice is clear, the writing style distinct!

“Me – not wanting to admit that I just let him use me again. Him – not wanting to admit that there was more than just sex” Tate, ARC – Ugly Love

    Bottom Line

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover is incredible intense. so full of sizzling chemistry that its oozing out of the pages. But it’s also honest, and heartbreaking and it will make you tear up so many many times Be prepared for the full range of emotion, crying, laughing and hoping and happiness, Ugly Love has it all and is the next masterpiece of this incredible storyteller Coleen Hoover!

  3. Reborn by C.C. Hunter- Shadow Falls: After Dark #1

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2014/04/reborn-by-c-c-hunter-shadow-falls-after-dark-1.html

Reborn by C.C. Hunter- Shadow Falls: After Dark #1

Here comes a new Spin Off Series from one of my favorite writers and one of my favorite Young Adult Paranormal Series: Shadow Falls. When the series ended last year I was sad. Then CC Hunter announced the Spin Off with Vampire Della and I was not.. exactly thrilled at first, as she was not one of my favorite characters, but now after finishing I’m totally Team Della – GO Della!

Angry, with a lot of sass and heartbreak underneath that hard shell!

Della is an interesting character, she’s very angry and not always very nice, which is why I was not immediately sold on her as a protagonist. Being made a Vampire was one things she had to get used to, but what hurts her even more is the rejection of her parents. Since her parents do not know about supernaturals, they think she’s at a camp for troubled teens. Their rejection, and especially the cold shoulder from her Dad huts Della so much that she completely closed off from friendship and love with the fear of being hurt again.

Once you get to know in Della’s head, it’s easy to understand her better and hurt along with her. Also, I loved that everyone made her aware of her cold snappish behaviour and that she begins to reflect her attitude and slowly begins to change!

Beautiful friendship, and finding a family where you would not expect it!

The theme which was prominent in The Shadow Falls series carriers also into this new series. It focuses a lot on the power of real and true friendship and that you can find family in many different places. Della’s friendship with Kylie (protagonist of the previous series) and the witch Miranda is absolutely moving and touching and makes you wish to have such close friends yourself. It’s with them that Della can be herself and she’s loved simply for who she is.

Then there is the Vampire camp leader Burnett who is also working for a CIA like organisation only for Supernatural. He’s a closed off badass who also has a hard time showing and expressing feelings, but he has taken on Della and seeing their relationship was also a thing of wonder.

Love, Romance and no real Triangle! !

What made this story really shine was Steve with whom Della has some kind of an relationship, which Della has a hard time truly defining as being in a relationship due to her issues. But Steve knows her and he loves her for who she really is and he never gave up on her and I LOVED that about him so much! when Della pushed him away, he pushed forward even more. How can you not love a boy like this!

The synopsis hints a a Love Triangle, and while a triangle was major part of the previous series, it is completely differently handled here for which I’m grateful.

    Dangers, Killings and Mysteries!

Apart from all this wonderful elements there is of course  also a plot line that keeps everyone moving and hooked. There is a killing and Della desperately wants to prove herself to Burnett to help and solve the case. Then there is the mystery surrounding Chase which totally ended up in a super surprising twist I didn’t see coming. In addition Della tries to find family members her father never mentioned before and in her desperate wish for love, she tries to find them.

The story hooked me right from the beginning and there were lots of surprised and twists along the way. The ending was exciting, closed up some loose ends to satisfy the reader, but then leaves some mysterious for the next book!

If there is one thing to complain about is the constant feminism from Della, who thinks that she’s not taken seriously that she’s a girl. While I like the theme and I think it’s an important issue to be addressed, a little less wouldn’t have hurt and would have still gotten the message across.

    Bottom Line

Reborn by C.C. Hunter kicks of excitingly into a new series set in the Shadow Falls world. Beloved characters are back, and new ones are introduced. Even though I was skeptical, Della proved to be a kick ass heroine with a lot of heart we just needed to discover she has. The romance is touching and the basic them of love, friendship and family is what truly shines in these pages! Even if you haven’t read the previous series feel free to jump in now!

  4. Exceptional and Special - Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2014/01/faking-normal-courtney-c-stevens.html

Exceptional and Special - Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens

Clearly, Faking Normal comes with a premise that promises a lot of tears and agonizing moments. I was prepared for this, yet I was not prepared to what was really to come and that I would fall head over heels with this wonderful, touching debut!

Truly Broken and not ready to Speak!

Alexi is damaged and broken, but for the sake of her family tries to hide what happened to her, and she does this so very well! No one realized that there is something wrong with her, that something insanely horrible happened to her.  But we do!! We didn’t understand right away what happened to her, but we have some pretty good guess. But since Alexi is not ready speak out exactly what happened, we are not entirely sure.
It was a process of understanding and realisation and it was done so perfectly.
And even though I had some pretty good guesses, but the true revelation still shocked me to the core.

When Friendship Turns Love, Turns Savior!

Being alone and broken, Alexi is not ready and sure what it will mean for her when the boy next door Boddee starts to live with them.
Gosh my heart broke for this boyhen we hear that his Dad abused his mother and finally killed her. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Having only his 19 year old brother left, Alexis family take him in. This boy is outstanding. There is so much to tell about this boy, yet I know I have no real words describing him!
Bodee is such a fantastic boy, but no one really sees him like this. He’s super silent, but he observes so much… He’s the only one who ever saw Alexis marks on the neck, the ones she inflicts on herself and always tries to hid it, until Bodee comes along! Poor, wonderful silent and observant Bodeee.
Thank goodness for people like this!!!

The Power of Love, Trust and Friendship!

Slowly, so very slowly they form a friendship that is so insanely moving and touching and wonderful. Their friendship turns just as slowly into something more and they both would do anything to protect each other.
Two broken kids, that even though they have both insane issues themselves do anything to protect and heal each other.
The power of Bodee is the way he reads me, sees through me, and then he understands the truth behind the facade. He’s the guy who can walk straight through the House of Mirrors in the first try. It’s almost annoying. No one should ride trendy like a pro surfer while I drown. - ARC, Faking Normal
    Gosh and the writing!!!
Absolutely captivating, mesmerizing and beautiful. Courtney Stevens is incredible talented.
A hand to hold instead of lips to kiss. He’s my fort, my sanctuary. And I won’t do anything to jeopardize this. - ARC, Faking Normal
I know we’re still broken. Both of us. But Bodee’s got the glue to make us whole.  He is love.
    - ARC, Faking Normal

Even just reading these quotes and remembering these scenes and the lines in the book brings me back to tears!

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Faking Normal  was exceptional,  heart wrenching, touchingly tragic but in between the sadness was so much wonder and beauty that melted my heart. Most definitely, Faking Normal is a brilliant debut from a fresh new voice and I’m excited to read more from Courtney C. Stevens.

     contemporary

    Additional Info

The Blue-Haired Boy tells a short story from Bodee’s POV, set before the happenings of Faking Normal. This Novella (which I’m soooo going to read) will come out soon.
Did you hear about Faking Normal already and do you plan to read it? I so hope you are giving this book a chance!

  5. Sweet, Cute and Exciting! Alienated by Melissa Landers

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2014/01/sweet-cute-exciting-alienated-melissa-landers.html

Sweet, Cute and Exciting! Alienated by Melissa Landers

Hot Aliens coming openly to live with us? So a mixed Contemporary Love Story mixed with otherworldly awesomeness? Add in the amazingly cute cover and I was hooked, could barely hold my excitement back when I got a Review Copy!

Aliens Among Us – Good or Bad Thing?

I absolutely loved already the story set up. Aliens are out in the open, but still living on their own planet and in order to get humans and L’eihr’s to get to know each other better, the government created an exchange program. Hoping for a new understanding both for the L’eihrs but also for the humans who of course feel threatened a little bit. So when the first L’eihrs arrive and one is going to live with Cara and going to school with her both have to learn what it means to be human or alien…. and that not everyone is truly excited about this. There is a lot of hate coming Cara’s and the L’eihrs way, that is truly hateful and filled with pre justice.

When you have to look deep into the soul

L’eihrs are super smart, brilliant but cold and lack human emotions and Alelyx is no exception. Their superior intellect is also something most humans feel threatened by and their coldness is definitely not helping much. But Cara is determined to make the best out it, seeing it as her change to attand the college of her dreams. But Cara is more than just her wish to go to College, she’s a wonderfully strong, loyal and compassionate girl who is not letting prejustices against the aliens cloud her own mind. She’s determined to get to know Aelyx even though he’s weird and brutally cold sometimes.

She tries to look into his soul and tries to find the trigger that will finally force some human emotions into him. I loved this about her so so much! I also loved her loyalty even though Aelyx didn’t make it easy for Cara – but she’s such a strong-willed and stubborn girl that she never gave up.

For instance: Since Aelxy doesn’t like the spicy human food, Cara tried to cook everyday something new full of hope to find something he likes. This is just a small example, but I found it super damn cute!

Low Sweet Romance, A Love build of trust and Passion

The romance was so so so damn cute. It was super slow and it took both of them a long time to trust each other and for them to admit having actual real feelings for each other that go beyond friendship. Seriously, it was one of the best aspects of the story and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.. Especially seeing Aelyx developing very slowly human emotions and then also realising what love feels like was just beautiful. There were some super tender, sweet loving moments that I read over and over, they were so wonderful, touching and moving.

Danger, Twists and an incredible Ending

Apart from the wonderful romance, the plot itself was great. Filled with lots of twists that we didn’t see coming and filled with danger we didn’t know to expected when the story begun. Suddenly it’s not just a story of love between an Alien and a Human – but everything is a stakes. The ending will leave us with desperate wishes to hold the sequel already in our hands.

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Alienated by Melissa Landers  is an outstanding mesmerizing debut, filled with the sweetest most touching romance and a kick-ass plot, that entails a dramatic storyline that slowly builds up to a shocking ending. Warm, touching moments full of love and the discovery of human emotions meets  an otherworldly set up that lovers of both Scifi themed books and romance lovers enthusiasts will devour!

So how does this sounds friends? Excited like me about books with Aliens? Any books like Alienated that you read or looking forward reading this year?

  6. The Grande Finale - Daylighters by Rachel Caine - The Morganville Vampires #15

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/11/daylighters-by-rachel-caine-the-morganville-vampires.html

The Grande Finale - Daylighters by Rachel Caine - The Morganville Vampires #15

There is nothing more sad but exciting than a good series ending. I always say Good Bye with a sad and a laughing eye. Sad because I have to part with beloved characters, Laughing because I’m happy that beloved characters will get a happily ever after..

Morganville – we love and hate it!

Morganville usually is a place where Vampires rule and Human struggle to live among them. But Claire and her wonderful friends always fought for equal right for the humans. And, I always loved this about them. They see each and individual person or Vampire for what they are. They are bad and good Vampires, just as there are bad and good humans. They do not discriminate there, but judge people by their actions.

Which is why as much as everyone wanted the Vampires to disappear from Morganville, when it finally happens with an organisation called the Daylighters, everyone realises that it truly doesn’t seem much better. And Claire and the Crew are there again to fix it.

    A Life worth fighting for!

As this is the last book in this fulminate and amazing series we were all excited to see how Rachel Caine will wrap everything up and puts a nice bow on it. Claire, Michael, Even and Shane fight for the people in Morganville, and this also means fighting for the Vampires. Initially, I was a little irritated that now that finally Humans rule their city, they are still not happy. But, once the story progresses it makes so much sense and is perfectly in line and in character with what they all ever fought for.

Just because humans rule, doesn’t mean it’s better – and it’s not!

And they lived happily ever after…

The end comes with a beautiful bow and I’m not spoiling too much when I’m saying that the ending will be nice. Maybe.. a little too nice? Maybe a little too perfect?

I remember a wonderful author saying once, that you can’t truly enjoy and appreciate a happy ending when there is not major suffering and loss before that involved. (I cannot remember who said it, but it makes a lot of sense to me)

With that being said, it’s not like Claire and the others didn’t suffer – but the ending came just way way too perfect for me. The whole series builds up to this ending but when it came and I finished the last page, I was like “and now?” . There aren’t too many open questions and I think Rachel Caine wrapped it all up nicely, but this is how I often felt when finishing a Morganville book and I do not trust the happiness. There is still so much room for other things to happen, for many stories to tell, that it just feels like that this needed to be the final book and this is where we stop telling the stories… You get what I mean?

Anyway, the ending is great – and the characters shine as usual so bright that I love them all so much that I am sad leaving this wonderful kids and friends behind. Personally I wouldn’t mind another book as Morganville and all the wonderful characters will always have a place in my heart

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Rachel Caine finishes with Daylighters one of my favourite series – The Morganville Vampires – in a wonderfully perfect way. This is a series I am not getting tired to recommend to people looking for a great YA Paranormal series. It’s full of wonderful and amazing characters that grow so much during this books that it feels like you just know them.

It’s full of wonderful and amazing characters that grow so much during this books that it feels like you just know them.

  8. Sizzling Chemistry and lots of Snark - Sweet by Erin McCarthy - True Believers #2

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/10/sizzling-chemistry-lots-snark-sweet-erin-mccarthy-true-believers-2.html

Sizzling Chemistry and lots of Snark - Sweet by Erin McCarthy - True Believers #2

After reading TRUE from Erin McCarthy earlier this year, I was super excited and did a little happy dance when I heard that there is going to be Companion Book focusing in Tyler’s big brother and one of Rory’s friends.

Jessica – Sweet with a lot of snark and attitude!

Admittedly, I couldn’t remember much from TRUE, only that she was one of Rorys best friends. But that didn’t keep me from connecting with her super fast! Coming from a rich house you’d think of Jessica being different, but all her life she struggled to be free of the tight boundaries of her parents and her brother. I loved her attitude a lot, she was a free spirit who likes to talk big and just tried to life her one live despite her parents who want to push her into doing what they want. I guess, Jessica is not everyones type, but she was mine:)

Riley – Holy Hottness – filled with a Heart of Gold!

Oh Girls! Riley will most definitely win you over! He was my absolute highlight! He comes with a rough package, tattoed all over his delicious muscled body and with a lot of attitude. He talks back, is full of snark and doesn’t take crap especially from Jessica. Which is pretty new for her … But Riley has a lot on his plate, as he has to care for his brothers. He’s brother, father and caretaker in one and it takes a lot of heart and willpower to do all this despite his young age. What 20 something year old would sacrfice his own happiness and life plans to raise a Kid with Down Syndrome and a closed up 10 year old. You have to admire Riley only for this and he would do anything for his brothers. Gosh, it warmed my heart so much thinking about this boy with the rough shell and beautiful heart!

    Sizzling Romance!

You wouldn’t think those two wouldn’t be the best fit, and neither do they think like this. But their is so much chemistry between them that it was nearly jumping out of the pages! They were perfect for each other and I loved following them coming to terms with their attraction and their feelings! And, gosh girls falling for Riley is so easy!

    Bewitched Rating

    Rating 4.5

    Bottom Line

Sweet by Erin McCarthy was lots of sweet and lots of awesome!!! Riley is a wonderful, wonderful boy with a strong attitude but a heart of gold and the chemistry between him and Jessica was sizzling and full of tension!

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/09/endless-knight-kresley-cole-arcana-chronicles-2.html

Endless Knight by Kresley Cole - The Arcana Chronicles #2

Endless Knight is the sequel to the phenomenal first book of The Arcana Chronicles from Kresley Cole. …. and I couldn’t have been more excited to read this, as I loved already the first book senselessly!

Ever Imagined all the players of a Tarot Card Deck Coming to live?

Set in a Dystopian world, Evie our main character has to learn that she is actually a part of an ancient and very gruesome game where all the players of a Tarot Deck come to live and have to fight each other until only one survives. Being completely along, the only one she trusts is Jack – a bad-ass kick ass mortal who she also fell in love with! (and oh Girls – Jack is completely swoon worthy hottness!) Now, Evie and Jack form alliances with other Tarot Players to fight against the ultimate and most dangerous card in the game “Death”….

I love love love this idea, it’s so unique and yet so amazing that I can hardly believe no one ever thought about this before! All these kids have different abilities and now they are left to fight for their lives!

    Holy Hottness, and Holy Scaryness!

While Evie learns all about this in the first book, she now has to learn how to use her powers and needs to fight to survive. She forms some great alliances and all these characters are just awesomely developed. The plot itself is thrilling and so fast paced that you won’t have much time to catch your breath. There are some gruesome scenes and elements that scared the hell out of me, but the plot development is just outstanding.

I was fixed and glued to the pages, I never wanted to stop and I found myself coming home from work dropping everything just to read on and find out what happens next!

And in between all these we find the hottest and sexiest teenage romance ever! Even though this series is a YA one, it definitely is directed for the mature reader. Holy Cow, Kresley Cole most definitely knows how to write  steamy and sexy scenes!!

The chemistry between Evie and Jack is sizzling and nearly palpable!

Death – is he really so evil?

Even though all characters are amazing, Death is the one character who stands out even more! Kresley Cole managed to create a character who is so complex, deep and contradicting that you cannot help but fall a little for the interesting player.

While Death is the ultimate evil in Poison Princess, we will have to rethink our opinion once we get to know him better. There is so much more about him that will make your heart ache so much and even if you do not want to, you will most definitely start slowly caring for him. Just like Evie!  And here comes a Love Triangle I didn’t see coming, but makes sadly totally sense. I know that everyone is concerned about Love Triangles, but here? It’s done just perfect and we cannot help it but understand Evie’s feelings.

It’s amazingly played, it’s incredibly developed and I just love love love how deep and complex Kresley Cole created these characters!

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Endless Knight by Kresley Cole was a brilliant and simply outstanding sequel that is filled with the most complex and deep characters in a story that is uniquely amazing. Hot ,sexy and kick ass this book leaves nothing to desire. So, all I can do is urge you to read this book, and if you haven’t yet –  then GO and pick up The Poison Princess!

  10. Heartbreaking, Unique and Epic! Teardrop by Lauren Kate

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/09/teardrop-lauren-kate.html

Heartbreaking, Unique and Epic! Teardrop by Lauren Kate

Before we talk about Teardrop I have a confession to make: I am a big big fangirl of Lauren Kate and her Fallen Series was definitely one of my favorite, passionate love stories ever! Needless to say, when Teardrop was announced I was utterly excited and barely could calm down when I heard Lauren Kate would be at BEA. So, of course Teardrop ended up being my first BEA read!

    Don’t Ever Cry!

Imagine you could never ever cry? Letting the tears flow when you are sad? This is Eureka’s life after her mother told her to never ever cry. Eureka just lost her beloved mother and she’s in a mental state of complete loneliness and sadness. Even though she lives with her dad, he changed and their relationship changed a lot after he remarried. Eureka is utterly broken and so lost that her heartbreaking emotions directly jumped at me out of the pages. I was so broken and lonely with her!

I wanted her to get better, I wanted her to see bright light and I wanted her to feel love….

Oh  my gosh, you see I’m just a mess with her! That is what Lauren Kate does to me with her tales…

    Heartbreaking! Passionate!

Just as I expected from Lauren Kate the whole story totally broke my heart. In the beginning we dig deep into Eureka’s life which is already sad, but when her best friend Brooke also starts turning to be an complete and heartless Jerk I was most definitely reading on with tears in my eyes!

But besides the sadness there is also a lot of underlying passion and a slowly unfolding love story that kept my mood and my hopes up.  Ander is the mysterious boy who suddenly and constantly appears on Eureka’s side. He’s mysterious and weird and she cannot comprehend what he wants from her, of if he might be dangerous. But Ander was definitely a boy made in heaven. Most definitely swoon worthy, he managed to capture my heart and Eureka’s broken one quite effortless.

I just know that with the progression of this series, their love with turn out to be incredibly epic.

Atlantis – an ancient Lore, paranormal elements!

Apart from Teardrop being both heartbreaking and passionate it also comes with an incredibly unique and brilliant paranormal storyline! I admit being fascinated with Atlantis, but there is so much more in Teardrop that proves this series will most definitely be epic! When Eureka learns about an ancient love story I became even more compelled and engrossed in this story. Lauren Kate added elements here from Atlantis that made the whole story uniquely stand out. I cannot wait to see where she goes from here!

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Teardrop by Lauren Kate is full of passion, heartbreak and incredible unique storytelling.  Everyone is always looking for something unique and here you go – Teardrop is most definitely unlike anything I have ever read before!

    Additional Info

Seriously, I cannot stress enough how much I love Lauren Kate so I know I sound widely over excited about her books. But, I urge you to try this new series as it clearly is sometime else entirely. :)

P.S : I just realized that my whole review is composed of three word: Passion, Heartbreak and Unique. *giggles* And here I apologize for my lack of eloquence, but I couldn’t help it as it seems…
  11. Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/09/where-the-stars-still-shine-by-trish-doller.html

Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller

When I saw that Trish Doller releases another book I was excited. Her first book “something like normal” is still super high on my wish list and I haven’t gotten around reading it. Where the stars still shine sounds haunting and sad but perfectly up my alley!

Stolen as  Kid – Rescued as a Teenager

Callie has such a heartbreakingly sad story to tell that my heart broke already early on for her. Her mom run away with when she was only a few years old and since then they were both on the run. Sleeping in horrible places and Callie never went to school or had friends. With 17 this time is over when she is found and brought back to her father. But Callie doesn’t know normal… so how can she finally claim the life she was supposed to have?

    Broken, lost and scared

Callie’s story will break your heart and I was rooting and cheering for her to find her back to normal. But it was not an easy road. Callie has a hard time trusting anyone, even her father who loves her deeply.

Truthfully, Callie’s Dad was a fantastic man – he has such a big heart and loves his daughter deeply even though he was also at a loss what to do with her.

Reclaiming their relationship was a hard road for both of them and it broke me imagining what her Dad ha to go through and now has to face when he finally had her back!

    Love, Sex and Friendship

Being finally at a place where she could find friends and love scars Callie instead of getting her excited. She was just never used to trusting people and forming real bond. Watching this 17-year-old girl struggling so hard made me want to reach out to her, hug her and tell her to trust them. Friendship and love can heal even the most broken souls.

Then there is this one boy who just want to get to know her and go on a date with her. But boys so far just always used her so when he refuses to have sex with her she’s confused and lost all over again!

“I don’t understand what happened. Why Connor didn’t want me. And I don’t understand why I still feel every bot as worthless as I felt after Danny, after Matt”

This makes me again tear up imagining what her life must have been before!

    Finding True Love

Then Callie meet Alex and they just click. They begin a loose affair based on sex because that is what Callie knows.

“Right now I don’t feel like I’m trash waiting to be discarded, but I feel I want to leave instead of being asked to.”

But both find a soul mate in the other, someone who seems to understand even without big words. Alex was a fascinating character. He was all bad boy from the outside, but when we get to see into his soul and mind we understand him so much better. In the end, he’s also just a lost boy who needs someone to hold him!

They do not have it easy, especially since both are so closed off- but when they both start feeling deeper for each other they also slowly begin to open up. They save each other.

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Where the Stars still shine is sad and heartbreaking and tells a story that will shock us to the core. It rattled me deep and stirred my emotions constantly.  I teared up so many times, but it’s such a beautiful and sad and heartbreaking story, yet so full of hope and wonderfullness!  There is so much to say about this book, there is so much depth in this story that I feel like I didn’t do this book justice enough.

  12. Series Feature: The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine - Fall of Night #14

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/06/series-feature-the-morganville-vampires-by-rachel-caine-fall-of-night-14.html

Series Feature: The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine - Fall of Night #14

Ahh. The Morganville Vampires! A series made of awesome! And instead of just reviewing the last book, which just came out in May – I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you a little about the awesomeness of this series. At the end I will just shortly touch the last book, but like this all of you can read this post. People who have not yet read or started this series, People who read a few but are behind and People who are new!!

    MorganvilleVampires_FallofNight

Why is this Series Made of Awesome

    1. Vampires

I love Vampires, always have and always will. And the Vampires in Morganville are exactly how I want them. Dark, dangerous and badass. They tae no prisoners and there are not sparkly and not always fun. But, there are some Vampires in Morganville who show some kind of left over humanity which makes all the Vampires in Morganville very complex, deep and facinating. You never know what to expect from them!

    2. Friendship

THe biggest and most epic aspect about this whole series is the friendship between

    • Claire – young, super smart girl who goes to College early because she’s so bright
    • Eve – badass Goth girl who has such a big heart!! in love with Michael
    • Michael – Hottie/Ghost/Vampire/…. Michael is a lot of things and changes drastically during this series, in love with Eve
    • Shane – OMG Shane! In love with Claire – he’s the most human of them all, hates Vampires fiercely and is total bad ass shit!

Those 4 are the core and the heart of the series and their loyal and deep friendship is just incredible! They have to go through so much during all these chapters of the story but still they always have each others back. They are a family, but not by blood but by love!

    3. Growth

We see these 4 Teenagers grow so much. They grow together, then they grow apart but never too far. Each of them progresses differently but it’s still amazing to follow. Each of them develops on each own, yet they never totally grow apart. But not only our humans grow, also the Vampires change over time. Of course not as fast and profound as the humans but still. Claire is such a unique character who mingles perfectly between the world and touches also the coldest Vampires!

    4. Storylines

Each book has its own story which is more or less always concluded at the end. Sure, there is a story arch which continues through more than one book. There is a lot of kick ass, a lot of relationship issues and bonds and often a looots of action! It’s never ever boring to spend a few hours in Morganville

    5. Myrnin

Crazy, ancient Vampire Myrnin. Picture him as Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean and you’ve got my Myrnin. He’s Claire’s boss and is the inventor and scientist of Morganville. He’s super duper crazy and scenes with him often made me laugh so hard. But he’s also dangerous and a little in love with Claire. He’s fascinating and one of the most unique characters ever!! You have to meet him!!

You Should Start This Series Because…

Simply because it’s made of win! There is so much greatness in this series, that all fans of paranormal and vampires should get into this series. It has amazing characters, great compelling and thrilling storylines within each chapter of the series.

Also, they are very fast reads, so you will be caught up in no time!

You Should Continue This Series Because…

Each Chapter is getting better. More heartbreak, more love, more friendship and deeper storylines with the Vampires! Myrnin gets more screentime and we all love Myrnin right?

Fall of Night – Book 14 was awesome Because..

The last book was just another great book! Claire finally out of Morganville all alone and ready to live her dream of MIT… Well, that#s what she thought! but.. Morganville is never far and soon Claire is caught up in Vampire dramatics even though she wanted to be away. Also, we shouldn’t be afraid of our favorite characters not appearing, because we all know Shane. He loves Claire so much that he would never leave her completely on her own.

It felt different as it was not set in Morganville  but in its heart it’s still all the same story which I loved! There are new interesting characters introduced and it’s been a great set up for the next book!

    Bewitched Rating

So, the whole series and Fall of Night will get my 5 Stars of Approval!

    Additional Info

As this series is perfect for a TV show, there is a recent kick-starter project going on to get this books made into a webseries! They even have Amber Benson (Buffy!! woot) to play Claire! So exciting!!! So head over, watch the movie and help making this amazing series into a web-series!

  13. Rush by Eve Silver - Series: The Game #1

New Post has been published on http://bewitchedbookworms.com/2013/06/rush-by-eve-silver-series-the-game-1.html

Rush by Eve Silver - Series: The Game #1

Ah… look at this cover, read the synopsis and tell me that you are not at least a little curious about this book. Well, I was!

    Rush by Eve Silver

Easy Start  and then .. Bääääm!

When we first meet Miki it’s like meeting any other girl in an Contemporary Story. Talking about Boys, hanging out with girlfriends – like the perfect normal story. But then… things happen pretty damn fast when Miki is pulled into the Game! Crazy! That’s what I first thought, first being at a school, now being somewhere completely else with 4 other kids, weapons and this strange screens hanging in the air pointing out scores. Hu? Yep, we are just as confused as Miki ash’s also not getting lots of info but has to play along to survive.

    Totally confusing!

Evil Aliens! Right, why not let Teens kill them..?!?

Soon we learn that those kids are there always for a short period of time to complete a quest and basically to kill some Aliens. But Miki is an awesome heroine who quickly tries to adapt and would do anything to get out of this! I loved her attitude, not sinking down and cry over this cryable situation but rather go and kick some alien-ass! Loved her!

The whole concept of The Game and The Aliens was fascinating but darkly compelling and thrilling. The whole book was so packed with action that everything just felt like a rush! In between there were some more quite moments but the book somehow never stayed still, we were constantly moving, exploring and finding out secrets!

Need some hot Boys? Yep, we got two – and no Love Triangle!

How awesome is that, we get two amazing swoon worthy and droll worthy boys but there is no Love Triangles! See me smiling and bouncing? I loved this so much as I was truly afraid of an Triangle! And like this I could love each boys completely and fully without feeling the need to take teams!

While Luca is more the BFF boy, Jackson is the one that makes me swoon and sing songs about him! He’s kick-ass, sometimes cold and calculating  but there was a softness underneath that made me believe in him! There were some amazing, ghoosebumpy scenes that truly made love him even more! He is a very complicated and secretive character full of mysteries but this just added to his allure.

    Bewitched Rating

    Bottom Line

Rush by Eve Silver was most definitely a rush full of dark, edgy action. Rush was an incredible  fast paced story with vivid characters, which are full of secrets and mysteries! The setting was phenomenal , adding an unique and refreshing addition to YA Sci-Fi stories!

On Dublin Street by Samantha Young  on goodreads:

Jocelyn Butler has been hiding from her past for years. But all her secrets are about to be laid bare…

Four years ago, Jocelyn left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Scotland, burying her grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without attachments. Her solitary life is working well—until she moves into a new apartment on Dublin Street where she meets a man who shakes her carefully guarded world to its core.

Braden Carmichael is used to getting what he wants, and he’s determined to get Jocelyn into his bed. Knowing how skittish she is about entering a relationship, Braden proposes an arrangement that will satisfy their intense attraction without any strings attached.

But after an intrigued Jocelyn accepts, she realizes that Braden won’t be satisfied with just mind-blowing passion. The stubborn Scotsman is intent on truly knowing her… down to the very soul.

On Dublin Street was a small miracle on amazon, rising up the Top Lists in a few days! I think even author Samantha Young was surprised by this huge and overwhelming success. Even more, just a few weeks after self publishing On Dublin Street, her book was acquired by NAL (Penguin). Talk about a comet like miracle and success story! When it was first published in August I was always having an eye on this book, falling it neatly in my recently aquired New Adult Addiction!

Leaving your past behind… well, you can try!

Jocelyn has to deal with the tragic loss of her family and even though it’s been years, she still hasn’t learned to deal with it. Running away to Scotland, Jocelyn cuts herself from all tight human relationships, afraid having to lose again. She closes her heart , tightly until Braden comes along and teaches her to open up again. Finally, Jocelyn has to face her past and has to deal with her issues….

Thrilling set of characters that will steal your heart

I simply loved all characters in On Dublin Street! From the closed up and broken Jocelyn to the sexy beast that is Braden. Those characters will steal your heart, make you cry, sob and cheer for them! In addition to those phenomenal main characters Samantha Young introduces a set of secondary characters that were just as passionate and lovable!

Angst – Humor – Sexy Times – all you want in a good story!

Seriously, this book had it all! The angsty times when Jocelyn is dealing with her past, broke my heart just thinking about what she had to go through. On Dublin Street came with the perfect amount of heart shattering emotions, the ones that make you cry and hope for Jocelyn to find peace. But, On Dublin Street had more! It was downright funny, to see how far Braden went to get her to open up and to get the full Jocelyn not only in his bed, but this sexy smart man also tried his hardest to get into her heart! To make an already good story perfect, the chemistry between Braden and Jocelyn was sizzling and their relationship, hot and explosive!

    Bewitched Rating

     Bottom Line

Sexy, funny and filled with angst that will make you sob. On Dublin Street comes with a perfectly balanced, wonderful storyline that comes with amazingly flashed out characters that will manage to steal your heart! On Dublin Street is   a heartbreaking story filled with hot explosive chemistry and a girl who desperately needs saving…

    Synopsis from goodreads
    Rating:
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
This was an phenomenal read with the most amazing heroine ever! Epic Fantasy as its finest! And Epic is the best word to describe this book of wonderment”

You love kick ass heroines!! Then meet Celaena

Celaena is an assassin who lost her parents at the age of 8 and was trained to be the world most famous assassin. But, she’s much more than a cruel killer. Celaena is beautiful, smart , she loves to read and plays music - even more, despite what her upbringing would suggest she loves to be a woman. She knows she’s beautiful and is not playing the ugly duck, nor does she needs a man to tell her so. I loved everything about Celaena - she was kick ass strong, yet there is a vulnerable side on her. In the end, she’s still a girl although the most feared assassin ever seen. She loves to wear beautiful gowns and loves the looks she get from the men surrounding her. Sarah J. Maas did an outstanding job creating this perfect to goodness heroine!

Fantastic World Building - enough to tease and not too much to be overbearing..

The world building was another aspect that made this story simply perfect! I loved the descriptions of the world and it was easy to imagine this fantastic world before our eyes. The world is ruled by a cruel king who banished all magic out of the world and conquered every continent and land out there. He’s vicious and not above killing everything that stands in his way. There is a hind of magic coming along, which makes me even more excited to see what is yet to learn about this world!

Let’s talk about the boys! Oh the boys!

There is the Prince Dorian - and despite what you would expect with a cruel father like his, he’s amazingly awesome! Smart and wonderful he clearly has a heart and a soul. It’s easy to fall in love with him. Very easy! Choal - the Captain of the Guard is a another player for Celaena’s heart, yet he’s a brooding character not easy to fall for - but he makes Celaena stronger. I loved him just as much! It will be hard to decide on a team just yet, which is a unique situation since I’m very easy to pick teams!

    Action, Fights, Mystery and Romance!

The plot was absolutely great, I loved the combination of fight, action and the mystery behind the murders. But even more, there lingers the promise of magic and it’s on Celaena to discover if there is really and truly still magic in the world and if the Fae truly disappeared completely! This promise of more, of magic and Fae made the story even more perfect - it was not yet overly pronounced but we are certain that there is more to come, more to discover and more secrets to be revealed! And I am excited to follow this path together with Celaena!

    Bottom Line

This was epic fantasy - thrilling, gripping and beautiful. With mysteries to be discovered and a promise of more epicness to come! I loved every second I spend with Celaena and I can’t wait to step back into her live and follow whatever journey lays ahead of her !I’m amazed and In love!

    Additional Info

There is a set of eNovella’s availabe which all play before the happening in Throne of Glass. In total there are 4 short stories which lead to Throne of Glass. The minute I finished Throne of Glass I got those Novella’s. I wanted to know more about this girl and her past, and upbringing! Those stories are perfect for just this! However, I have to say that the Caelena we meet in these Novella’s is slightly different. I little more spoiled and careless. But her development to the woman we meet in Throne of Glass totally made sense to me!
